Coastal Bounty at ZFolio Gallery Monterey

Monterey Bay Metal Arts Guild presented the “Coastal Bounty” gallery exhibition  Nov 30, 2018 to January 2, 2019. ZFolio is one of MBMAG’s favorite places to exhibit with it’s beautiful setting, and friendly, knowledgeable and helpful staff.

Everyone was welcome to join the artists and gallerists at the free artists reception the afternoon of Sunday 12/2 . Snacks and beverages were provided.

Three pairs of earrings from my Snowflake Coral Series (shown below) were available to purchase at ZFolio gallery in Monterey California as part of the Coastal Bounty Show.

Inspired by the  invasive snowflake coral species now seen more often in the waters of the Hawaiian Islands. The species is spread by cargo ships and has no natural predators in Hawaiian waters.

CHM Carnelian Spheres Earrings
Tension set carnelian spheres tension set in low tarnish silver in these earrings. The view is of the front sides of the earrings with the orange carnelians glowing when lit from behind. The background is white.
Circogonia-Epibulia Earrings
A pair of earrings which consist of 3 layers each. The top layer is laser cut and hand formed and then patinated to create contrast between it and the lower 2 layers. All 3 layers are different designs. The niobium ear wires are angled towards each other in the photo.

Inspired by the microscopic sea creatures in Ernst Haeckel’s radiolarian drawings from 1862.

Argentium sterling silver layers. Stainless steel fasteners with handmade sterling silver spacers and niobium ear wires. Argentium silver is a low tarnish sterling silver. Niobium is a hypo-allergenic metal.

 

Radiolarian C. H. Muller

Three layer recycled sterling silver necklace based on a radiolarian drawn by Ernst Haeckel in 1862.

The necklace represents a Collosphaera Huxleyi Müller radiolarian, a microscopic sea creature which I’ve scaled up to bring attention to it and the wearer. The radiolarian is based on one of Ernst Haeckel’s drawings in his 1862 book “Art Forms In Nature” which focused on creatures from the waters of the Strait of Messina.

Radiolarian Trio C.H. Müller

Three layers of recycled sterling silver in the form of a radiolarian are joined with stainless steel fasteners to become this necklace.

The gem laden Collosphaera Huxleyi Müller radiolarian pendant is based on a microscopic sea creature which I’ve scaled and given the colors of the sea using blue and green rose cut tourmalines. The tourmalines are tension set between two layers.

Based on the radiolaria drawn by Ernst Haeckel for his 1862 book “Art Forms In Nature” which focused on creatures from the waters of the Strait of Messina.
