Low tarnish sterling silver, Pure Titanium, Stainless Steel
Reversible
Hand drawn, CAD modified, laser cut, hand finished

Every intricate detail was hand finished to dazzle.

Microscopic marine animals were the inspiration for the layers of low tarnish sterling silver in this reversible cuff bracelet.

Three thin layers keep the bracelet lightweight. Stainless steel fasteners strengthen and remind us that humankind’s activities on land affect even the tiniest of sea creature.

The outer layer is based on the Clathrocyclas latonae microscopic creature and the inner layer is based on the microscopic sea creature Polystomelia Imperatrix.

Each curve and cutout is textured, burnished and finished by hand. Keeping the metals flat—a nod to industry’s impact on ocean animals—requires restraint and a deliberate resistance to the creation of more organic, life-like forms.

The outer titanium layers tantalize the viewer with peeks at the complex low tarnish sterling silver inner layer. Layered together to reflect light and create shadows in unexpected ways.

Modifying Zooplankton as I redrew them from their scientific drawings was the first step towards creating wearable 3D metallic scientific illustrations. I digitized the new hand drawings, modified them again in CAD and sent the designs to a laser cutter. Layers were cut in 30 gauge low tarnish sterling silver and pure titanium.
