See five pieces of my Snowflake Coral series in person at the exhibition + sale “Ancient Traditions | Modern Art” now at Radius Gallery in the Tannery Arts Center, Santa Cruz, CA. The juried in-person show is a feast for the eyes of jewelry and sculpture created with minerals in mind. Low Tarnish Sterling Silver and Stainless Steel with offcuts of leather and suede from a purse maker
Hand drawn, laser cut, hand finished
To create the pieces, I hand drew the coral animal and an outline that evokes a sand dollar. The drawings were scanned into CAD software where they were re-drawn, modified, enlarged, digitized and layers were laser cut. The Snowflake Coral cutouts on the brooches were laser cut, the structural shapes were hand sawn and soldered. Each component of the brooch/pendant was hand finished, textured, and rejoined with industrially produced stainless steel screws and nuts as a subtle reminder to the wearer of our effect on even the smallest of life forms.
