Features of microscopic radiolaria were enlarged hundreds of times to be visible to the human eye. The brooch/pendant is based on two of Ernst Haeckel’s 1862 drawings, a Circogonia and an Epibulia. The pendant/brooch creature, a combination of both radiolaria, is a hand modified design that was deconstructed into 3 layers. The Circogonia-Epibulia represents the mutative effects of industrialization on tiny sea creatures.

Stainless steel nuts and bolts are the scaffolding that holds the mutated layers together. The pin mechanism is stainless steel.
