ABOUT THE ARTIST & THE ART

UNDERWATER MARVELS PROPEL MY ART
My art jewelry is an expression of gratitude to the ocean and my way of giving it a voice. Experiencing the wonders and fragility of marine ecosystems while SCUBA diving, propels me to create jewelry which evokes vivid memories of beautiful ocean scenes while leaving sea creatures and the seaside untouched. All pieces are crafted by hand, and each work of art is unique.

MARINE FAUNA MEETS INDUSTRIAL
The contemporary art jewelry of Sherry Cordova spotlights anthropogenic changes in our seas. She deconstructs and modifies drawings of microscopic marine fauna into layers. Cordova developed a design language to minimize environmental impact while merging technology, beauty, wear-ability, and a respect for tiny marine creatures. Self-guided explorations into laser cutting thin non-ferrous metals were informed by her M.S.E.E., BS Mathematics and decades of metalsmithing. Industrial stainless steel fasteners rejoin layers of her pieces into metallic creatures. Each design reminds the wearer and the viewer that our actions and choices affect even the smallest and most remote life forms.
